by Curtis Blais (with a little help from Copilot)
’Twas the night before demo, and all through the place,
Not a cupboard in sight, not a chair left to chase.
The rooms had been emptied, the floors stripped with care,
In hopes that new LVT soon would be there.
The hardwood was cherry, once glossy and grand,
Now destined to leave at the contractor’s hand.
Porcelain tile, cold and cruel to the toe,
Was next on the list of things that must go.
The oak doors were tearfully taken away,
Their grain and their warmth now fading to gray.
MDF will arrive, all smooth and all flat—
A painter’s delight, but a wood lover’s spat.
Though function may triumph and trends may evolve,
The loss of real timber? A hard one to solve.
We packed up the trinkets, the gadgets, the gear,
Moved furniture, boxes, and bins full of cheer.
Each drawer was a puzzle, each shelf a surprise—
Just how did we gather so much in disguise?
The closets were bursting, the cupboards were deep,
A lifetime of “stuff” we forgot we did keep.
Then came Mrs. “M”, with her packing finesse,
A veteran of moves (ten? twelve? maybe less?).
She folded, she sorted, she labeled with flair,
And tackled our chaos with seasoned repair.
Her help made a difference, her calm was a gift,
She packed like a whirlwind, gave spirits a lift.
The island once modest has vanished from sight,
A behemoth will come—five by ten, pure delight!
Quartz will be gleaming, appliances new,
And stacked stone will rise with a bold, modern view.
A pantry will blossom, walk-in and wide,
With shelves for the snacks and the sauces inside.
The closet will grow, with new space to spare,
For coats of all kinds—yes, even a pair!
The family room echoes, the guest room is bare,
The kitchen a canvas, soon bursting with flair.
Excitement is buzzing, the plans are all tight,
As visions of renos dance into the night.
So here’s to the demo, the dust and the din,
To tearing things down so new dreams can begin.
May the hammers be gentle, the progress be swift,
And may every new feature feel just like a gift.

Great job with the poem!!
